What is an AOC (Active Optical Cable) USB?

From the outside, every cable may seem the same. They have a wire and a rubberised exterior and the connectors on each end. But that is usually not the case. There is shielding, how the wires are twisted to the foil that wraps the cable to consider. On top of all of this, there is what we call passive cables (This is most of the USB cables that are around) and Active USB cables. Active USB cables will boost the signal via an electronic circuit and it is usually used in long run situations. This is due to the attenuation (signal loss) over distance. Because of how copper works, you will always get loss of signal over distance.

This is where Aeon’s AOC cables come into play. Aeon’s AOC USB cables go one step further. Not only do we use advanced circuitry to boost the signal but we have replaced our copper cables inside the cable with fibre cables. There are many benefits to using fibre like higher bandwidth, longer distance and no interference (RFI or EMI). Because of all these benefits, you can guarantee that Aeon’s AOC USB 3.0 cable will deliver the best possible signal over long distances.

With USB3.0 or 3.1 standard, they do not recommend using a cable run longer than 3m but there are many situations and industries that require a longer run.
